Bronze, Black Granite, 2002
The bull stands on black granite, its powerful body frozen at the moment before the charge. The bronze has oxidized to a dark, noble patina, reflecting centuries of mythology embodied in this metal. This is not just an animal – it's a symbol of masculine energy, market strength, untamed nature that humans are constantly trying to subdue.
Black granite beneath its hooves – cold, eternal, unyielding. The contrast between the living form and dead stone creates tension, as if the bull is trying to break free from the pedestal of its own symbolism. Each muscle, each vein on the body speaks of contained power ready to explode.
I created this bull at the beginning of the new millennium, when the world was full of optimism and faith in endless growth. Now, looking at it years later, I see how naive that faith was. The bull remains on its pedestal, but the world around has changed. Perhaps that's the true meaning of sculpture – to remain unchanged while everything around transforms.
